Ava-Marie of Ava’s Party Designs in Bethel, CT recently earned Certified Balloon Artist (CBA®) status. Ava-Marie was one of a select group of balloon professionals who successfully completed a series of tests, including oral and practical examinations. The certification was administered by the Qualatex Balloon NetworkSM (QBN®), a professional organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in balloon decor and bouquets. There are currently more than 2,500 Certified Balloon Artist professionals worldwide.
“The education I’ve received as a result of pursuing my CBA designation will be invaluable in helping me provide high-quality, professional balloon products and services to everyone in the Fairfield County area,” said Ava-Marie Sealey.

To achieve certification, CBA candidates are required to:
1. Satisfactorily complete a series of exams;
2. Apply knowledge of skills and techniques by designing and
    building professional balloon deliveries, arrangements, and decor;
3. Demonstrate their understanding of design theories, delivery
    techniques, and business systems through an oral presentation to
    a panel of industry leaders.
Participants in the CBA Practical Exams are graded according to their knowledge of theory as well as the application of key design elements. In preparation for the CBA exams, Ava was required to study a series of educational DVDs and written materials produced by Pioneer® Balloon Company, manufacturer of Qualatex® brand balloons and developer of the Qualatex Balloon Network.

The CBA certification process is a key program in the Qualatex Balloon Network, which establishes industry standards and guidelines for balloon professionals. QBN supports balloon professionals through education, business systems, and marketing.

The QBN curriculum focuses on all aspects of the professional balloon industry, including balloon arrangements, deliveries, and decor for social expression, parties, and special events. QBN also serves as an international resource of ideas and solutions for its members. There are more than 6,000 QBN members worldwide.

Pricing is not a "one size fits all". It's different for everyone because it depends on many factors like style, complexity of the design, size, and usage.

Other cost to consider includes, but not limited to:

  • Delivery Fee  - depends on the event location but typically starts at $39, more for early morning and after hours delivery.
  • Set-up Charge - depends on the complexity of the decor set-up but typically starts at $55.
  • Strike Fee - If our decorating team have to return and remove the decor (pop, pop, pop) and retrieve our equipment.
  • Taxes - 6.35% (as of 10/17/2016).

Smart Balloon Practices is a campaign sponsored by The Balloon Council (TBC), an organization made up of responsible retailers, distributors, and manufactures that are dedicated to educating others about the wonders of balloons and the proper handling of them. As a Certified Balloon Artist we are active member of TBC, and understands what an integral component balloons are for festivities of all kinds. This is why TBC and Ava's Party Designs (APD) want to make sure we can all safely enjoy balloons at our parties; therefore, they promote Smart Balloon guidelines which include:

  • Keeping your balloons secured to a weight . A helium filled balloon should be tied securely to a weight that will keep it from releasing into the air.
  • Never releasing foil balloons into the air . After the party is over, many people will want to take the balloons home, but when you're finished with them, pop the balloons and dispose of them properly. Do not release them into the air, although it is very rare, they can cause problems if they are tangled in power lines and can turn into roadside litter if not disposed of properly.
  • Keeping deflated or popped latex balloons away from small children to avoid risks of choking . Children can choke or suffocate on uninflated or broken balloons; adults should always supervise young children, especially those under 8 years-old with balloons.
We believe that by educating our customers about these guidelines and how they can help, it will prevent misuse and continue making people happy with balloons.
